SAL Engineering designs and manufactures video acquisition systems to conduct inspections, for research and rescue activities, to plan photogrammetric surveys, to have visibility of otherwise inaccessible areas, for hydrogeological risk assessment. The system consists of airborne, terrestrial or marine vehicles with remote control and with stabilized and planned flight, with high resolution cameras and video stabilization systems on three axes.
The certified pilots of SAL Engineering perform, in different scenarios, highly specialized video shooting for promotional purposes, for film production, for all surveillance activities, for industrial plants, or more specifically for technical inspections of rock faces, for inaccessible areas characterized from disruption, for road infrastructure, as well as for inspections of pylons, antennas, power stations or wind farms. With reference to the latter application, it is essential to underline the safety advantage that this methodology provides for the monitoring of the blades and the turbines, since the visual inspection is carried out using high resolution cameras, necessary to evaluate any damage or malfunctioning. .
Since the optical calibration parameters of the cameras installed on our media interact directly with the positioning and alignment data of the same (GPS and inertial platform) it was possible to develop a software called "Video UAV Tracker" which allows to reproduce geo-referenced videos inside the QGIS platform, with the possibility for the user to create a georeferenced database directly during the analysis of the movie. In addition, if you have a DEM of the affected area, you can add new information to the database simply by clicking on the playback window, since the system is able to locate the corresponding ground point, thanks to the ability to reproduce the orientation geometry of the sensor in relation to the 3D model of the terrain.
"Video UAV Tracker" is very useful for monitoring medium-large portions of the territory because it allows to analyze the phenomena in a very short time and directly during the emergency phase: particular attention is given to the aspects related to public safety, civil protection and control of areas affected by the earthquake, or affected by floods, with the possibility of inserting information into a database within a GIS project.
